CEO Richard Stitselaar confirmed the move in a statement, noting the decision came after careful review of market conditions that continue to squeeze dedicated VR developers. The Amsterdam location, formerly Force Field Entertainment before its 2021 integration into Vertigo under Embracer's Plaion umbrella, delivered acclaimed work but could not overcome broader adoption shortfalls.

Embracer, which acquired the full Vertigo operation in 2020 for €50 million, has a documented history of studio rationalizations and divestitures amid its own restructuring. No headcount figures were disclosed for the closure, though the company emphasized support for affected staff and clarified that the Rotterdam studio remains operational.
