Ubisoft Halifax union workers have approved a confidential settlement following the studio's closure. The vote, involving 61 members of the Game and Media Workers Guild of Canada, concluded a process that began after the December 2025 union certification and the subsequent January 2026 shutdown affecting 71 positions. Terms remain undisclosed, as is often the case in these resolutions.
The studio, focused on mobile titles, was shuttered weeks after the union vote. Ubisoft attributed the decision to ongoing company-wide efforts to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and reduce costs over the prior 24 months. Former employee Jon Huffman noted the surprise to staff and managers amid active projects, while expressing gratitude for the union-negotiated package. Additional layoffs have since occurred at other Ubisoft locations, including Red Storm.
This outcome reflects the broader pattern of industry adjustments. Metrics from recent quarters indicate continued pressure on publisher resources. The settlement provides a measured close to one chapter in these proceedings.
