CD Projekt Red just made the Witcher 3's most downloaded graphics mod officially redundant by hiring its creator. HalkHogan, the force behind the HD Reworked Project with over 325,000 unique downloads on its recent version alone, confirmed on Nexus Mods that his reworked textures, models, characters, monsters, vegetation, armor, and environments are baked into the September 29 remaster for PC and consoles. This isn't some last-minute patch job. The modder has been collaborating with the studio, building on his prior contributions to the 2022 next-gen update.

The scale is massive. Nearly every in-game asset category got the treatment, and the result is available to everyone without hunting Nexus or wrestling with load orders. Executive producer Jakub Kutrzuba previously described it as integrating the most popular Nexus mod with upgraded textures and meshes for broad visual gains. Console players, who never had easy access to the original mod, now get the upgrade for free as part of the remaster.

This move follows CDPR's established pattern of folding community work into official releases rather than pretending the mod scene doesn't exist. Receipts from the mod page and multiple outlets confirm the handoff, and early previews at Gamescom noted the improved fidelity in locations like Letten. The HD Reworked Project page itself now directs users to the remaster instead.

Industry watchers tracking crunch and monetization might see this as a rare positive signal in a space where studios often ignore or litigate fan labor. The numbers don't lie: millions of total downloads across versions underscore how much players valued the work before it went official.
