Tenebris Somnia hits Xbox, PC, and other platforms today, delivering a retro survival horror package from Argentine filmmaker Andrés Borghi that blends pixel art gameplay with genuine live-action cutscenes filmed on practical sets.
The story follows Julia, who enters her ex-boyfriend's apartment after nightmares of monsters tearing him apart, only to find the horror bleeding into reality. Production spanned nearly four years with a full crew in Buenos Aires, practical prosthetics and masks by Marcos Berta of When Evil Lurks fame, and Argentine actress Clara Kovacic in the lead role. No generative AI touched any part of development, a deliberate stance New Blood Interactive highlighted in their launch materials.
Borghi's vision draws directly from streaming FAITH: The Unholy Trinity, resulting in cutscenes that interrupt gameplay unpredictably and pull players into filmed sequences that match the pixel environments. Executive producer Mason "Airdorf" Smith and publisher New Blood backed the project after seeing early work, creating a crossover between the FAITH team and this South American production crew.
This release adds another entry to the retro horror revival that prioritizes tangible craft over shortcuts, with bundles and discounts available for existing FAITH owners.
