GSC Game World just dropped the teaser everyone with a Zone fixation has been waiting for: after the Cost of Hope expansion and 2.0 update, they're cooking DLC 2 and a free multiplayer mode that explicitly refuses to ape Counter-Strike session bullshit. CEO Ievgen Grygorovych and creative head Mariia Grygorovych laid it out at Gamescom — they're not chasing the obvious live-service formula because "we are not doing something that everyone [would] do."

The multiplayer pitch is pure GSC stubbornness: no session-based deathmatches, just experiments built for the lunatics logging 2000 hours in single-player. Mariia admitted the studio is mostly a solo operation and "not a lot of our players really even wait for multiplayer," which makes this whole thing feel like a glorious middle finger to expectations. They're experimenting because they can, not because some suit demanded a CS clone to juice player counts.

DLC 2 gets the same "different kind of storytelling" treatment, the kind that might actually surprise players instead of recycling the same faction soap opera. Announcement incoming "pretty soon" according to the devs, so the hype cycle resets again. If they pull this off without turning the Zone into another battle royale graveyard, it might be the first time a Ukrainian studio actually listened to the 2000-hour weirdos instead of the quarterly report.

Rock Paper Shotgun's on-the-ground chat proves GSC still remembers who their real audience is — the ones who treat the Zone like a second home, not a content drip. Now deliver, or the roast writes itself.
