Sony Interactive Entertainment has agreed to acquire Cinemersive Labs, a UK-based machine learning and computer vision company founded in 2022. The transaction, announced on April 2, 2026, involves an undisclosed financial sum and positions the Cinemersive team within SIE's Visual Computing Group.
Cinemersive Labs specializes in technologies for immersive 3D photography and video, particularly enabling six degrees-of-freedom content capture via a single smartphone camera using proprietary generative AI. This capability supports applications in virtual and augmented reality, including portable rigs for stage-perspective experiences at concerts or events.
The acquisition bolsters SIE's Visual Computing Group, established in 2024 through the merger of prior AI and machine learning teams. The group's mandate centers on deploying neural networks to optimize game rendering and streaming for superior runtime efficiency, visual quality, and reduced latency.
While the integration promises enhancements to gameplay visuals and rendering techniques, concrete implementations and timelines have yet to be specified. Such moves reflect a measured progression in SIE's visual computing initiatives.
