Seeker Entertainment, the studio behind the creature-collector action RPG Kinforge, has paused production and furloughed its core team of eight employees. The announcement came via LinkedIn over the weekend, citing the devastating fundraising environment that has plagued the industry for years. Despite extending their initial seed funding runway by more than a year, the team could no longer sustain operations without additional capital.
Founded by Riot Games veterans three years ago, Seeker had shown promise with Kinforge. A reveal trailer drew millions of views, playtesters gave strong ratings to a vertical slice showcased at DICE and GDC, and the Steam page amassed tens of thousands of wishlists. Yet, these metrics were insufficient in the current market, where even solid traction fails to secure publishing deals or investments.
CEO Oksana Kubushyna expressed the difficulty in a statement: 'This is one of the hardest posts I’ve had to share.' Head of design Scott Shicoff added, 'Not the news I wanted to share, but here we are.' The studio remains open to fundraising paths but prioritizes staff, urging connections for job opportunities in engineering, art, design, and more.
As consolidation continues across the sector, this pause underscores the persistent challenges in early-stage development funding. One might note the irony of promising projects yielding to fiscal realities, yet again.
