Riot just took the nostalgia shotgun to League of Legends Classic and blew its own foot off. Three months after launching the throwback mode in July, the company announced it's yanking the permanent servers in January 2027 because most players already fucked off back to the modern game. The dev post admits it flat-out: most have gone back to other parts of League.
Patch 26.21 starts the death march with windowed queues in nine regions, a free-only Battle Pass, and a stripped-down store that only sells champs, runes, and pages. Classic-exclusive cosmetics get refunded in RP. More legacy champs like Volibear, Urgot, and Udyr still drop before the lights go out on January 6, 2027. Riot says it might drag the corpse back later as a limited event with "adjustments," but right now this is an obituary.
Players on Reddit and X aren't shocked. The mode launched with a 60-champ roster that felt like a random snapshot instead of actual Season 3, paywalled retro skins that pissed everyone off, and matchmaking so bad some regions were already unplayable. One month in, daily games on NA had cratered to a few thousand. Now it's just counting down to the funeral.
