PlatinumGames CEO Atsushi Inaba has made it clear the studio still wants to grow Bayonetta as a character and expand her world, even after the departures of series creator Hideki Kamiya and several directors who shaped the last three mainline entries and the 2023 spin-off Origins. Speaking to Famitsu alongside Shift Up's Kim Hyung-tae during promotion for a Bayonetta crossover in Stellar Blade, Inaba gave the now-familiar non-answer on specifics but left the door cracked: he can't comment on the next game, yet the desire to broaden the character and universe remains strong. The IP sits with Sega and Nintendo, not Platinum, which complicates any path forward regardless of who is left at the studio.
The talent drain is no small footnote. Kamiya departed in late 2023 to form Clovers and work on Okami 2 with Capcom; Bayonetta 3 director Yusuke Miyata, Origins director Abebe Tinari, Astral Chain director Takahisa Taura, Metal Gear Rising director Kenji Saito, and character designer Masaki Yamanaka have all exited in the same window. Bayonetta 2 director Yusuke Hashimoto left years earlier. Platinum has filled the gap with contract work on Ninja Gaiden 4, Final Fantasy XVI, and a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles project, but no new Bayonetta title has surfaced since Origins. Kim has separately voiced interest in collaborating on character design for a potential future entry, joking about a desk at Platinum, and Inaba appeared receptive to cross-studio ideas.
Whether this signals an actual sequel, a remake, or simply a desire not to let the brand die quietly is still unknown. Inaba has pivoted the studio toward more publishing ambitions and external partnerships since the 2022 hiring of former Nintendo executive Takao Yamane, yet the loss of the core creative voices who defined the series' combat, tone, and lore makes any continuation a different proposition than before. Fans on X and Reddit are already splitting between cautious optimism and resignation that the magic left with the people who built it.
The sharpest line comes from Inaba himself: the studio wants to expand the character and world, but offers no timeline, platform, or confirmation that a new game is even in development.
