People Can Fly Group S.A. has acquired the Cooldown Games brand, its publishing rights, and the associated veteran team to establish a dedicated publishing vertical within its structure. The deal, announced earlier this month, positions Cooldown Games as an independent division under People Can Fly, with CEO Steve Gibson and his leadership remaining in place. Financial terms were not disclosed, as is standard in such arrangements.

People Can Fly, the Polish studio known for work-for-hire projects following a period of project cancellations and layoffs, had paused its publishing ambitions to prioritize cash flows. Cooldown Games, formed in late 2024 by former Gearbox Publishing staff, brings established platform relationships and commercial expertise to the table. This acquisition allows People Can Fly to support its internal titles while exploring third-party opportunities.

Group CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski stated that the publishing segment is intended to be revenue-generating from the outset, leveraging the trust built with the Cooldown team. Steve Gibson noted that joining People Can Fly provides greater scale and stability. The move aims to improve profit margins and capital allocation in a predictable manner.

Industry reactions have been muted, with announcements shared on social platforms but little broader discussion. This consolidation reflects ongoing efforts to streamline operations amid sector challenges.
