Blizzard finally pulled the trigger on the one change nobody asked for but everybody's weirdly okay with: Sombra dropping the Damage role entirely for Support in Season 5. After four previous reworks that still left her feeling like a problem child in the DPS pool, the team moved her at BlizzCon 2026 and dropped the patch live October 6 with Hotfix replacing her old Hack, Cyberspace turning into a weaken + heal zone, and her EMP cost jacked up 67.5%. The invis and translocator fantasy stayed intact while the disruption side now helps her team instead of just trolling it.
The X timeline is split but leaning positive. Some longtime Sombra mains are still salty about losing the pure flank vibe, calling it the worst role swap since Doomfist went Tank. Others are already posting clips saying she feels broken in the right hands — pre-casting Hotfix on dive buddies and dropping Cyberspace to halve enemy damage output while topping up the squad. The "broken" takes are coming in fast, especially from players who stopped treating her like a second Mercy and actually used the weaken to enable flanks.
Matchmaking complaints are still the real villain here. One player ranted about three-game losing streaks and teammates farming clips instead of playing objective right after dropping the line about the new Sombra. Classic Overwatch: give the community something to like and they'll still find a way to scream about solo queue hell. The role swap worked on paper and apparently in practice for a lot of folks who tried her day one. Now watch the balance patches roll in once the pros start abusing it.
