Play by Play Studios is dropping the open beta for NBA The Run on PS5 this weekend, May 30 from 10am-6pm PT, and it's bringing fictional street legends to run alongside real NBA stars in that 3v3 arcade streetball vibe. The studio's pushing fluid movement as the big hook, letting you pull off smooth 720s with Ant or snatch blocks midair with Giannis without the usual clunk. Street Legends like Spin Cycle (Philly laundry-delivering pickpocket king), 5'3" phenom Shen Tong (Beijing hops machine), Harlem's DJ, 7'7" paint dominator El Gigante, and legendary voice Bobbito Garcia all pack three elite skills apiece for high-risk, high-reward plays.

Beta access is free, no codes needed, with cross-play across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Unlockables include Shen at level 5 and early DJ playtime, plus full NBA roster reps from the jump. The game itself launches June 9 for $29.99 on PS5, built by vets chasing that old NBA Street energy with modern online focus.

Community's already buzzing on X with trailer hype and beta countdowns, while earlier closed tests drew feedback on server tweaks and shove mechanics. This beta window gives everyone a shot to test the x-factor system before the full drop hits.

Streetball revival energy is here, and the legends are ready to clash with the pros.
