Half Human Games, the studio behind the 2022 tower-defense action RPG Dwerve, has unveiled Myths from the Maw, a turn-based tactical RPG steeped in Dante’s Inferno-inspired cosmic horror where every moral compromise leaves a permanent scar on your mercenaries. Sin accrues as corruption points from battlefield kills, blood sacrifices to alien gods, and narrative decisions, eventually manifesting as traits that can force a character to flee combat, steal supplies, or outright defect to the Cult of the Maw. The game promises roguelike permadeath, procedural expeditions into a colossal spacefallen fortress, and deep customization across 12 races and 20 classes with equipment-driven builds.

Founder Percy Legendre IV framed the project as a deliberate exploration of consequence: “every choice costs something, and you carry it with you.” That philosophy extends to the combat loop, where intricate area-of-effect patterns, knockbacks, and immobilization force precise positioning or face cascading failures. The Kickstarter is slated for 2027, giving the small team time to iterate on the systems that distinguished Dwerve before scaling ambitions upward.

Community chatter on X has been muted so far, limited mostly to the Gematsu announcement link with little viral traction yet, which fits the long development runway. For a studio that previously delivered a fully-funded indie title through crowdfunding, the move into narrative-driven moral decay territory reads as a natural evolution rather than a desperate pivot. The real test will come when the campaign launches and backers see whether the corruption system delivers meaningful replayability or just another layer of self-inflicted punishment.
