A French court has ordered the liquidation of Midgar Studio, the Montpellier developer behind the JRPG Edge of Eternity and its planned sequel Edge of Memories. Founder and now-Nacon CTO Jérémy Zeler-Maury confirmed the ruling after months of failed efforts to find a buyer amid Nacon's broader insolvency filings. The studio, founded in 2008 with an eye toward blending French and Japanese sensibilities, spent eighteen years on projects including Hover before this chapter closed.
This follows the April liquidation of fellow Nacon subsidiary Spiders, another RPG outfit caught in the same cascade of filings that began with the publisher's own insolvency in February. Zeler-Maury's LinkedIn post made clear the team exhausted every avenue within the court's timeframe, leaving talent and unfinished work as the remaining assets. Edge of Memories, teased earlier this year and publicly described by its official account as still planned for later release, now sits with Nacon as the publishing entity.
Eighteen years of deliberate world-building ends not with a dramatic collapse but with the quiet thud of legal paperwork. The games and the people who made them outlast the studio name; what comes next depends entirely on whoever picks up the pieces.
