Marvel Rivals just nuked its own hero pipeline like it owed it money. After 17 straight months of two new characters per season, Season 10 drops the ball with a grand total of one hero—Gorr the God Butcher—and the excuse is they're pivoting hard to Path to Doomsday event modes in the back half.

NetEase creative director Guangyun Chen swears this single-hero drought isn't the new normal and they've already locked in two for Season 11, but the damage is done. The move comes with a fresh Domination map called God Quarry on September 24, two Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame-inspired modes hitting Season 10.5, massive balance swings hitting about 70% of the roster, and a reworked competitive ban system that now forces teams to alternate bans with full reveals instead of secret double-bans. Gorr himself is a Duelist swinging the All-Black Necrosword, summoning Black Berserkers from kills, and teleporting via symbiote tricks while Loki gets the permanent "missing" treatment in casual queues.

Community reaction on X splits between "finally some breathing room for balance" and "where's the second hero, cowards," with plenty pointing out the dev vision video felt like a half-measure apology. NetEase killed the streak to polish foundations, but the patient is already flatlining from power creep and Strategist ult spam. One hero won't fix the rot—it just gives them time to dig a bigger grave.
