Bungie's Marathon Season 2 dropped with Night Marsh map and overhauled progression, but the free Open Play Week turned into a server disaster right out the gate. Weasel and Anteater errors booted players mid-match within hours of maintenance ending on June 2, forcing Bungie to take servers offline for fixes and hand out free loot packs as an apology.

The timing couldn't suck more — Sony's State of Play was hyping the game to a massive audience while thousands tried to jump in for the first time. Existing players who got a couple matches in loved the new survival horror vibes, but newcomers got the classic Bungie launch special: connection codes instead of action.

Servers came back online later with fewer issues and more compensation promised, but this stumble hits hard for a live service title already fighting for relevance after Destiny 2's end. Bungie needs wins, not another Weasel wall.
