Bungie just took a flamethrower to one of Marathon's most glorious cheese tactics and called it balance. The mid-season update -- live as of April 14, 2026 -- slaps a hard limit on claymores per pickpocket drone. No more stacking a clown car's worth of explosives on those little bastards and kamikaze-ing them into squads for free wipes. One claymore per drone now. Sure, it can still knock you on your ass if you're dumb enough to stand close, but the golden age of drone-delivered death is over. Highguard this ain't, but it sure as hell feels like they're pissing on the grave of creative bullshit.
Thermal scopes got the nerf bat too, because apparently dominating every long-range fight since launch was too much fun. Deluxe (blue) rarity thermals are yanked from loot tables entirely. Range on the Superior SP Scope III sniper optic dropped 20 meters to 80m, and it now tanks your aim assist and range stats on top of the usual ADS penalties. The things were so strong players were screaming about them for weeks on Reddit and X. Bungie listened. Congrats, sweat lords -- your wallhacks got nerfed into something resembling fair.
Then there's the real comedy: Bungie buffing "being kind to strangers." They dropped the full C.A.R.R.I. protocol -- CyberAcme Runner Reinforcement Initiative -- that hands out CyberAcme Commendations for helping randos with contracts, extracting together, or playing nice. Spend those on salvage crates or rep boosts. Mercy Kits let you revive downed enemy runners (Rooks spawn with one), and there's even a "Stay Together" feature to queue up with the fools you just spared. In an extraction shooter built on betrayal and backstabs. This is some Hallmark Channel shit injected into a game that cost over $200 million to make. The ruthless reputation just got a participation trophy.
Between the Recon shell buffs, 11 new deluxe unique weapons in Perimeter and Dire Marsh, fresh battle pass cosmetics, and a laundry list of other tweaks, this patch is loaded. But let's be real -- killing the claymore drone meme and turning thermals into participation prizes while handing out friendship points is peak live service cope. Bungie wants you making friends on Tau Ceti IV. I'd rather stack one last claymore and blow the server up.
