Ember Lab has pushed Kena: Scars of Kosmora from its 2026 window to 2027, citing the need for extra polish on what they describe as a significantly expanded sequel to the 2021 original. COO Josh Grier and writer Thomas Varga framed the move in a PlayStation Blog post as necessary to exceed Bridge of Spirits quality at larger scale, a familiar refrain that nonetheless lands as a quiet admission the team wants breathing room on a bigger canvas.

The announcement arrived alongside fresh lore details: Kena, now a full Spirit Guide, heads to the island of Kosmora seeking answers about her past alongside childhood friend Orfio. The setting introduces four elemental cultures, Alchemystic Temples as dungeon-like challenges, and a crystalline canine companion that doubles as mount, combat ally, and puzzle solver. It remains a character-focused linear adventure, but with explicit permission to stray off the main path and a broader world to explore.

Community reaction on X split between resigned acceptance and genuine relief that the studio is taking the time rather than shipping undercooked. Several posters noted the physical PS5 release as a small win amid the delay, while others simply replied “LET THEM COOK.” The game stays slated for PS5 physical/digital and PC digital via Steam and Epic.
