Darlings, Insomniac Games didn't just Google "Tokyo aesthetic" for Marvel's Wolverine—they packed their gear and hauled themselves across Japan for the real thing. The team hit Tokyo, Joetsu, the historic post towns of Tsumago-Juku and Magome-Juku, and Kyoto, logging over 100 miles while lugging 20 pounds of scanning equipment through snow mountains, bamboo groves, underground stations, and city streets.
They bagged more than 600 high-res scans across four distinct biomes, 5.6 TB of raw data, and nearly 190,000 photos, all to nail authentic textures, weathering, architecture, and that unmistakable cultural patina. Even fictional spots in the game get built on genuine references instead of some dusty asset library.
The payoff? Environments that actually feel lived-in and respectful instead of tourist-trap wallpaper. Two weeks until launch on September 15 and the devs are out here doing the work—now that's the kind of dedication that makes a girl weak in the knees.
