Sony just dropped Helldivers 2 into the PS Plus Extra and Premium Game Catalog right as Arrowhead unleashed Patch 7.0.0 "Devoid of Liberty," and the company is straight-up banking on a fresh wave of recruits flooding the servers. The game already racked up over 22.9 million players across platforms as of August 9, and now PS Plus members get on-demand access to what Sony calls one of the most popular PS5 titles ever.

The update brings mutated Illuminate threats like the tanky Crusher and the nimble disarming Wretch pouring out of a new Void biome, plus SEAF platoon allies that spawn as planet modifiers to lay down fire with stim pistols and HMGs while smashing enemy spawns. Level cap jumps from 150 to 300 with new rank tiers, the GATER vehicle gets big buffs to speed and handling, assisted reloads got loosened up, and players can now rock eight emotes instead of four. On top of that, the long-awaited Warhammer 40,000: Castellan’s Creed Legendary Warbond drops today with Imperial Guard-themed weapons, armor, and missions.

Community chatter on X is hyped about the new Illuminate horrors and the 40K crossover, with players already prepping loadouts for the void push. Sony’s betting the combo of free catalog access and big narrative content will broaden that passionate base even further, and if the servers hold, this could be the biggest influx since launch.
