Gunzilla Games, the studio behind the blockchain battle royale Off The Grid, is addressing multiple claims from contractors regarding delayed payments. CEO Vlad Korolev posted on X yesterday, attributing the complaints to a 'new narrative from haters' while noting that payments are scheduled according to the company's cash flow needs.
Paul Creamer, a former VFX animator, stated on LinkedIn that he has not been paid since October 2025 despite working additional months on assurances from upper management, including a December call with Korolev promising resolution. Other former contractors and staff echoed similar delays, with some Ukrainian developers reportedly owed up to six months' salaries. Korolev emphasized that full-time employees have experienced delays of no more than one week over six years, and apologized for any inconvenience caused to contractors.
Off The Grid, live for over 1.5 years and named Web3 Game of the Year twice, reportedly adds 3,000 players daily amid these reports. The company's GUNZ token has declined 89% in value, coinciding with recent layoffs and cost optimizations common in gaming and tech sectors. Gunzilla, which also owns Game Informer, maintains it honors all obligations while prioritizing operations.
Community discussions on Reddit's r/OffTheGridGame highlight concerns over developer payments extending beyond five months in some cases, alongside past issues with tournament payouts. The full scope of affected individuals and resolution timeline remains unclear. These developments underscore ongoing cash flow management in the web3 gaming space.
