Gears of War: E-Day just ate a weekend DDoS straight to the servers and The Coalition confirmed it. Login failures, disconnects, and sync issues hit players trying to queue up or even push through the campaign, turning what should've been Locust-killing bliss into a brick wall. The studio's Gears Community X post called it out Sunday night, and Xbox Support later said services were back to normal after mitigation.
This lands right after a launch that posted strong Steam numbers — early access smashed the old Gears 5 record with over 20k concurrent, and full release climbed even higher — yet sales estimates sit soft at around 230k copies first week despite Game Pass numbers. Speculation on X points to the usual suspects: anti-woke grifters, Microsoft fatigue, or just random botnet nonsense. Whatever the motive, the attack didn't break the early access hype or the all-time player peak.
The Coalition says they're monitoring and will update if it flares up again. For a live-service shooter, this is the cost of doing business when the servers are the game. Players got screwed out of weekend sessions, but the record still stands and services recovered fast. DDoS is trash, but at least it wasn't the devs' own code failing.
