Square Enix dropped Patch 7.55 for Final Fantasy XIV today, and the Switch 2 port's launch next week is already looking janky before it even hits shelves. The update adds the Occult Crescent: North Horn field operation with Knowledge Level cap bumped to 40, final Phantom Weapons upgrades, and the end of the Inconceivably Further Hildibrand Adventures side story. But the real story is the laundry list of touch screen and input bugs exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 version.

Known issues include shots firing from the wrong spot in Gold Saucer mini-games, Active Time Maneuver gauges not registering taps, delayed character movement in menus, sound effects triggering on finger lift instead of press, and a crash when juggling the Home menu with the software keyboard open. Japanese kanji conversion also breaks on the Switch 2 keyboard. Official Lodestone notes advise avoiding the Home menu entirely during keyboard use to dodge the crash.

FFXIV hits Switch 2 officially on August 4 after a month-long beta, but these pre-launch problems scream rushed porting. Whales and casuals alike are eyeing the platform with the same tired skepticism that gacha ports usually earn.

Community chatter on X is light on outrage so far, mostly just players prepping for the new content across platforms.
