Japanese readers just handed a slim victory to a 28-year-old remake over the latest Pokemon hype machine. Famitsu’s latest most-wanted poll shows Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Switch 2 pulling ahead of Pokemon Winds and Waves by six measly votes — 790 to 784 — after weeks of the monster-collecting sequel sitting at number one.
Votes were cast between September 16 and 29, right after Nintendo dropped more Switch 2 Ocarina details. The chart also marks the first appearances of Switch 2 versions for Persona 4 Revival and Persona 6, plus Kingdom Hearts 4, Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies Untied, and Monster Hunter Wilds. Persona 6 still dominates the PS5 side at third overall with 689 votes.
Previous polls had Pokemon comfortably ahead, but the remake momentum flipped the script by a hair. In Japan, nostalgia sometimes outvotes new toys, and this week the Deku Tree beats the new starters by the slimmest of margins.
