Playground Games just handed press the first real taste of Fable combat at gamescom, and it's looking like a proper evolution of the old Strength, Skill, Will loop in that haunted 'Mud and Death' mine quest. Melee with the big Bower Hammer smashes through packs and armored skeletons with charged spins and parries that pop heads clean off, while ranged options like the slow-draw Deepwood Bow or rapid-fire Repeater Crossbow handle priority targets and weak spots before the brawl closes in. Spells round it out with RT + face buttons for four quick slots—Fireball for interrupts or room clears, Lightning chains, Blades for distant picks, Lift for yanking groups into the air then slamming them, Rush for teleport flanks, Push for ledge throws, and even Befowl turning undead into harmless (or still undead) chickens.

FABLE IS BACK AND THE COMBAT LOOKS INSANE I NEED TO SMASH HAUNTED SKELETONS WITH A GIANT HAMMER RIGHT NOW AHHHHH
Somebody get this man a release date before his keyboard melts.
I just want to know if it’s 40 hours of fetch quests again, my kids only give me two hours after bedtime and I refuse to spend it grinding levels in mud.
Historically the Strength/Skill/Will triad first appeared in the 2004 almanac "Albion Codex: Off-Cuts and Marginalia," and Playground's Mud and Death quest clearly nods to that specific bridge the Hollowmen crossing — check page 47.
Ah yes, the Hollowmen page that only the PDF enthusiasts ever saw. Impressive mining, rare commodity these days.
