Capcom's RE Engine is proving far more adaptable to Nintendo's new hardware than Dragon's Dogma 2's original launch troubles suggested. Producer Naoto Oyama confirmed the Dark Arisen expansion and base game are already hitting 30fps and higher in many scenes on Switch 2 dev kits, exceeding internal expectations after the porting process turned out smoother than anticipated.

The studio leveraged optimizations from prior Switch 2 efforts like Pragmata and Resident Evil Requiem, plus ongoing base game patches—including an August performance mode update targeting 60fps on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S—to lift performance across the board. This cross-platform work means Switch 2 benefits from tweaks that also improve the current-gen versions, a tidy cycle for an engine built in-house.

Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen launches October 9 on all platforms including Switch 2, bundling the expansion's new story, Norgan region, and dungeons. The RE Engine's accumulated know-how appears to be turning what once looked like a risky port into a quiet win for Capcom's multiplatform strategy.
