Behaviour Interactive, the studio behind Dead by Daylight, has laid off approximately 40 employees, representing 3% of its workforce exceeding 1,300 as of March. These cuts primarily targeted mobile and casual external development projects amid declining demand, with smaller impacts on the flagship title and Serious Sam Shatterverse.

Rumors suggested a link to recent Game Workers United Montreal flyers promoting unionization, as well as employee sentiments on return-to-office policies and generative AI. Behaviour emphatically refuted this, stating, "These layoffs were in no way related to any employee’s sentiments regarding unionization, AI or anything else." GWU acknowledged awareness of the rumors but offered no confirmation, instead providing resources on Quebec layoff rights, including eight weeks' notice for mass terminations.

This constitutes Behaviour's third layoff round, after 40 staff in January 2024 and 95 more later that year. The company notes 35 open roles, including for Dead by Daylight, signaling continued hiring in priority areas. Unrest over return-to-office mandates lingers among remaining staff.

Community discussions on Reddit speculate that pro-union and anti-AI voices were disproportionately affected, though evidence remains anecdotal. Behaviour emphasizes business alignment over personnel politics, in a manner consistent with industry patterns.
