Hamster’s Console Archives series just dropped another obscure Japanese-only gem on PS5 and Switch 2, and Ripple Island is here to remind you that 1988 SUNSOFT adventures didn’t need English menus to slap.

The 8-bit point-and-click style game puts you in Kyle’s shoes on a mission to save Princess Nasareru from Emperor Groaker using nine commands, branching choices, and multiple endings. It’s launching tomorrow for $7.99 / 800 yen with Hamster’s usual QoL stack: rewinds, multiple saves, button remaps, rapid fire, and those sweet CRT filters for maximum nostalgia bait.

All in-game text stays Japanese-only though — menus and manual get the localization treatment, but the adventure itself is pure Famicom flavor. Console Archives is quietly becoming the Switch 2’s de-facto Virtual Console replacement while Nintendo sits on its hands, and this one proves the line isn’t scared of super deep cuts.

L + ratio to the people sleeping on Hamster’s catalog — goated preservation move, actually playable for once.
