Compulsion Games, freshly independent after Microsoft’s latest round of studio divestitures, has posted on LinkedIn that it is open to co-development, outsourcing, and support roles across the games and entertainment sectors. The Montreal studio behind the Peabody- and BAFTA-winning South of Midnight is positioning its narrative and artistic capabilities for contract work rather than waiting for a new original project to materialize. This return to services work echoes the studio’s 2009 origins, though the context now involves post-acquisition restructuring rather than bootstrapping.

South of Midnight launched April 8, 2025 on Windows and Xbox Series X/S before expanding to other platforms, with the studio also known for We Happy Few. Unlike some peer studios that secured new ownership immediately, Compulsion and Double Fine landed without immediate buyers, prompting the outreach. The LinkedIn statement highlights the “award-winning team” and invites partners to “leverage the talent and creativity” for memorable experiences.

Industry observers noted the speed of the pivot, with posts framing it as a pragmatic response to independence. The studio has not detailed specific projects or timelines for new original work, focusing instead on near-term stability for the team.

The situation remains fluid as the broader Microsoft restructuring continues to ripple outward.
