CD Projekt Red has confirmed it holds no sway over Sony's manufacturing timelines, leaving the PS5 disc version of The Witcher 4 in doubt for a 2028 launch. Joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski stated the studio has no influence on first-party policies, noting that PlayStation discs must be produced in Sony's own factories and that a 2028 cutoff could eliminate them entirely.

The company still intends to deliver a physical box with collectible extras, or "feelies," to satisfy collectors regardless of disc availability. Nowakowski emphasized the team's affinity for tangible items, promising something fans will want to open even if the game arrives as a digital code in the package.

This follows Sony's July announcement to halt new PlayStation disc production starting January 2028, a move that has drawn community pushback over ownership and resale concerns. The timing places Witcher 4 squarely in the transition window, with no guaranteed disc on PS5 while other platforms may differ.
