Darlings, Capcom just winked at the camera and admitted the remake well is running dry. Executive producer Jun Takeuchi spilled in a Japanese 30th anniversary mook that the studio has been quietly prepping a "crossover" between the remake track and the mainline numbered games since Resident Evil Village — because eventually those classic redos are going to slam right into the modern timeline.
The hints are already baked in. Umbrella and Spencer name-drops, the return of Raccoon City in Requiem, all that delicious fan-service they initially downplayed until players started pulling threads and demanding more. Takeuchi straight-up said they decided to lean into it harder once the community proved hungrier for the connections than anyone expected. Now the two paths — remakes reliving the past, numbered titles pushing the present — are on a collision course, and Capcom is already thinking about what happens when the timelines collide.
Code Veronica's first-person remake drops next year, Zero is allegedly circling 2028, and that still leaves 5 and 6 as the awkward modern-era elephants. Whatever the crossover actually means — meta madness, shared universe shenanigans, or full-blown narrative knot-tying — it's the juiciest long-game tease the series has dropped in years. The clock's ticking, and the girls are ready to watch it all burn beautifully.
