Atari just handed Universal the keys to ten classic IPs and Hollywood's already revving the engine for big-screen action-adventure chaos. Pong paddles with grudges, Asteroids space rocks turned CGI set pieces, Breakout bricks flying in slow-mo — the list reads like a fever dream of 70s arcade nostalgia slapped onto modern blockbuster budgets.

The full roster includes Asteroids, Adventure, Berzerk, Breakout, Centipede, Crystal Castles, Millipede, Missile Command, Pong, and Yars' Revenge, with Universal optioning them all for "big-scale" treatment and one project already in scripting by Matt Reilly and Carl Hampe via Entertainment 360. Atari CEO Wade Rosen called it bringing the "spirit of our iconic brand" to a new medium, right as Universal rides high off Mario Galaxy and FNAF cash.

X is already memeing the Pong movie nobody asked for while some retro fans are weirdly hyped for a Centipede creature feature. This could be ten Pixels-level disasters or the next Mario-sized win — either way, the trailers are gonna slap harder than a 2600 joystick.
