Ubisoft finally pulled the trigger and announced the Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced Worldwide Reveal Showcase dropping April 23 at 9 a.m. PT. Fans have been begging for this pirate banger remake since the original dropped in 2013 and racked up over 34 million players. Now the suits are calling it "the iconic solo pirate adventure," which is corporate speak for "we axed the multiplayer because who the hell remembers that anyway."
Leaks from Tom Henderson paint a picture of a full-blown remake on the latest engine: new story content on Edward Kenway's background, extra officers, crewmates, quests, improved underwater stuff, and even a pet cat or monkey on your ship. July 9, 2026 release window, current-gen only, full price, no RPG bullshit according to the embargoed previews that supposedly impressed the press. Early side-by-side leaks already show visuals that don't look like a lazy coat of paint.
This is Ubisoft's golden ticket after years of live-service disasters and Shadows controversy. Black Flag was the last time the series felt like pure swashbuckling fun instead of bloated map-clearing simulators. If they don't fuck it up with always-online garbage or MTX on your rum rations, this could be the comeback the franchise desperately needs. But knowing Ubisoft, expect the showcase to be 70% montage and 30% damage control. Tune in Thursday -- or don't, and let the corpse of this series stay buried at sea where it belongs.
